Antiques & carefully prepared goods

Antique delivery. Care starts with the details.

Arrange antique delivery between sellers, auction houses, businesses and private addresses. Tell us about the item and how it will be packed so its transport and handling requirements can be reviewed before booking.

Carved wooden drawers with metal ring handles, photographed in natural light.
Furniture detail. Share the condition, packaging and handling requirements before collection.

Start with the item, not just its destination.

An antique cabinet, a boxed decorative object and a fragile framed piece are different consignments. Describe the materials, condition, weak points, loose parts and required travel position. Photographs of the item and its proposed packaging can help explain what needs particular care.

Include packaged dimensions, weight and declared value. A description such as “small antique” does not establish how an item can be lifted, secured or carried. Acceptance and the handling arrangement need to be agreed for the individual consignment.

Agree packaging and collection responsibilities.

Confirm who will prepare the item before collection. Suitable protective packaging, a fitted crate or other support may be needed depending on its construction and fragility. Do not assume wrapping, crating, dismantling or packing on site is included in courier transport.

For an auction-house collection, provide the lot or release reference, collection deadline and contact details. Make sure payment and release requirements have been completed with the seller. Record the item’s condition and keep relevant photographs before handing it over.

Plan access and lifting at both ends.

Give the collection and delivery postcodes, floor levels, stairs, door widths and where a vehicle can safely stop. Explain whether the goods are at a loading point or inside a property. The same questions matter when delivering to a private buyer who may be alone.

State the people and equipment available to load and unload. Additional help, carrying inside, unpacking and positioning must be discussed before booking. A vehicle with enough cargo space does not by itself establish a safe handling plan.

Discuss value and the agreed service before dispatch.

Tell us the item’s value and any special transport requirements at the enquiry stage. Ask for written confirmation of the applicable liability or cover terms, including any exclusions relevant to the goods and packaging. Declaring a value does not by itself establish insurance or full replacement-value cover.

For an overseas antique delivery, add the countries, ownership or sale context and any documents you already hold. Export, import and item-specific restrictions need individual review; this page does not promise that every antique can travel to every destination.

Your questions, answered.

Can you collect an antique bought at auction?

Yes, enquiries are welcome. Send the lot reference, release instructions, packaged measurements, weight, value and collection deadline. The goods must be accepted and the handling plan agreed before collection.

Will the driver wrap or crate my antique?

Do not assume packing or crating is included. Explain how the item will be prepared and what assistance is needed so responsibilities can be agreed before booking.

Does declaring the value establish replacement-value cover?

No. The applicable liability and any available cover must be checked against the actual goods, packaging and booking terms. Obtain written confirmation before relying on a particular level of protection.

Can you deliver upstairs or place the item in a room?

Include the floor level, access, item weight and help available in your enquiry. Carrying inside, additional people and room placement are not automatic parts of a courier booking.
