How to choose a courier service.

For UK road delivery, choose between Dedicated, Premium, Standard and Economy using the goods, the route and your priorities. International transport is arranged individually. Then explain the timing, access and handling needed at each address.

For UK road services, Dedicated provides an exclusive vehicle. Premium permits compatible shared loads without planned transfers. Standard and Economy offer operator-planned collection and delivery days within their agreed limits.

Start with the details you cannot change.

Before comparing services, identify your firm requirements. An essential arrival deadline is different from a preferred time. Goods that are ready at 09:00 present a different journey from goods still being prepared that afternoon.

  • Ready time: when every item will be packed and available for collection.
  • Delivery deadline: the latest acceptable arrival, plus the recipient’s receiving hours.
  • The goods: packaged dimensions, weight, item count and handling needs.
  • The handover: access and loading arrangements at both addresses.

If a deadline is flexible, say so. If it is essential, state the actual date and time, rather than simply “urgent”.

Four UK road service options. Clear differences.

These four options describe UK road services. European and worldwide shipments need individual agreement on the route, transport modes, transfers, timing and handling; the UK options do not automatically apply.

Exclusive vehicle

Dedicated

The vehicle carries your consignment only, with the same driver and vehicle and no planned depot or hub transfers. You request collection and delivery dates for our team to confirm. Choose this when the vehicle must not carry other customers’ goods.

Explore Dedicated transport
Direct delivery

Premium

The same driver and vehicle carry your goods without planned depot transfers, but compatible consignments from other customers may share the journey. You request collection and delivery dates for confirmation. Premium does not provide an exclusive vehicle.

Compare Premium and Dedicated
Flexible delivery

Standard

We select the collection and delivery days and complete the whole process within 5 working days from the agreed goods-ready starting point. Shared transport, driver or vehicle changes and planned transfers are possible. This suits goods whose collection and delivery dates can be flexible.

Compare Standard delivery
Small, flexible loads

Economy

We select the days within a total 7 working-day period. The whole consignment must weigh no more than 50 kg, with no packed item longer than 100 cm on its longest edge, and fit the eligible Small or Midi load profile. Shared transport and transfers are possible; same-day, fixed-time and two-person work do not fit Economy.

Check Economy eligibility

For Standard and Economy, Day 1 is the first working day after the agreed goods-ready date. Weekends and applicable bank holidays are excluded. Collection and delivery are both completed within the same period, and we give at least one working day's notice of each selected day unless the relevant contact agrees to shorter notice.

Normal Standard and Economy collection and delivery hours are Monday–Friday, 08:00–18:00 UK time. Out-of-hours, weekend and bank holiday requests can be reviewed for all four services by prior arrangement. Our team confirms availability, timing and any additional charges before booking. Compare the complete service options.

Add the timing and the type of goods.

Same-day delivery describes goods arriving on the day they are collected. Scheduled delivery describes work arranged in advance. Neither label replaces the choice of service level or confirms availability.

Pallet delivery describes how the goods are presented. Loaded dimensions, weight and handling determine which options are suitable. A pallet label does not establish the delivery speed or equipment included.

Sending across borders? International routes need individual review; do not apply the UK working-day options automatically. Read our European and worldwide delivery guide, then email the countries, goods, deadline and handling details.

Match the service to the job.

A replacement part needed today: start with the same-day requirement, then add when it is ready, where it must arrive and who can receive it. The essential fact is the deadline, not just the distance.

Weekly stock between two business sites: explain the regular schedule, normal item count and any days when the load changes. A recurring route can be discussed alongside a trade account enquiry; an application does not itself book a collection.

A pallet for an exhibition: combine the pallet details with the venue’s receiving slot, loading bay rules and any return collection. This job involves a load type, a timetable and site access, so one service label is not the whole brief.

Look beyond the postcode.

A vehicle must be suitable for both the goods and the places it needs to reach. On a narrow Cornish lane, details such as a tight entrance, turning space or a height restriction can matter. At a business site, the deciding detail might be a booked receiving slot or a loading bay closing time.

Our four UK road service options include basic one-driver loading and unloading assistance for packed goods at an easily accessible ground-floor entrance, without stairs or a long carry. The agreed stop-time allowance applies. Intensive loading, carrying farther inside, stairs or extra crew need an individual offer in advance, and the work must remain suitable for the chosen service. Assistance for international shipments is agreed individually.

Explain what equipment is available at each end. A larger vehicle does not automatically include a tail lift or pallet truck. Describe the load and access so safe handling can be agreed before booking.

Give us a brief that answers the important questions.

Have your collection and delivery countries and postcodes, packaged measurements, weights and timing ready. For UK deliveries, start with an online quote. Our measuring and describing guide explains how to prepare those details.

For international deliveries, several stops, an unusual item or handling requirements you cannot describe in the quote, email the full outline. List the stops in order and explain what changes hands at each one. Photographs can help describe awkward access or an unusual shape.

Check the arrangements before collection.

Review the agreed service, item list, timing, price and loading arrangements. Make sure any essential requirement appears in the confirmation, especially a receiving slot, exclusive vehicle or additional handling assistance.

An estimate needs review before it becomes a firm quote. A booking request or payment does not by itself confirm the delivery: we confirm separately after review, any required payment or approved account terms, and suitable transport have been verified.

If the load, access or timing changes afterwards, contact us with your booking reference so the arrangements can be reviewed. Avoid starting a second quote to change an existing delivery.

What do Dedicated, Premium, Standard and Economy mean?

These are four ways to plan a UK road delivery. Dedicated provides an exclusive vehicle; Premium can combine compatible consignments while keeping the same planned driver and vehicle. Standard and Economy use flexible operator-selected dates, with shared transport and possible transfers. The goods, timing and handling must suit the option. International and ferry transport arrangements are agreed individually.

How is Premium different from Dedicated?

Both plan the same driver and vehicle throughout, without planned depot or hub transfers, and allow you to request dates for confirmation. Dedicated is exclusive to your consignment. Premium may carry compatible goods from another customer. If exclusivity is essential, say so explicitly rather than assuming that a direct journey means an empty vehicle apart from your goods.

What can travel with Economy?

Economy is for a simple, non-urgent consignment suitable for the Small Van or Midi Van SWB category: no more than 50 kg in total, including packaging, and no packed edge over 100 cm on any item. It requires flexible dates, shared transport and possible transfers within seven working days for collection and delivery together. Urgent or fixed-time work, two-person handling and required specialist equipment are outside its normal scope. These limits do not establish that a person can safely lift an item.

When do the five or seven working days start?

For Standard and Economy, Day 1 is the next working day after the agreed goods-ready date. The allowance covers collection and delivery together, not a separate period for each. Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding the applicable UK bank holidays. We confirm the latest delivery date before booking and give each collection or delivery contact at least one working day’s notice; shorter notice needs that contact’s agreement. Notice alone cannot change an already agreed date or window.
